Everything you want in your career comes down to ONE thing – the relationships that you have.

So when we neglect our relationships, we are limiting our own ability to accomplish our goals and live extraordinary lives.

But you don’t have to settle for anything less than extraordinary, and as an extra bonus, cultivating great relationships will just make your personal and business life that much better! That’s why we are excited to share this conversation with Ken Coleman, one of the Dave Ramsey personalities and the author of The Proximity Principle: The Proven Strategy That Will Lead to a Career You Love.

We also want to know how you are doing with the goals that you set at the beginning of the year. Do you need to think bigger, or are you falling behind, or are you a little unclear on what you actually want? Wherever you may fall, one thing we know is that you’d benefit from a reset. Learn more about The ONE Thing Mid-Year Reset Retreat at https://trainings.the1thing.com/reset.

Have you taken any time to be grateful today?

When we think about forming power habits, we often think about doing something that will improve our productivity or health. We rarely consider the transformative power of mindset habits, and one of the most powerful habits is gratitude. That may seem like an easy or trivial thing, but in practice, embodying a state of gratitude every day is both surprisingly challenging and significant.

Our guest John Israel, founder of The Mr. Thank You Project and author of The Mr. Thank You Project, experienced an epiphany: if he wanted to make a huge, positive impact on the world, he had to start by doing just ONE thing to express his gratitude, every day. This ONE habit, over time, has truly unleashed something extraordinary, and in this episode, we invite you to become a part of it.

In this episode, you will learn...

  • [9:30] How to form a keystone habit for embodying gratitude
  • [16:40] How to manage your time so that you don’t fail a 66-day (or 365-day) challenge
  • [20:45] How to be grateful when you don’t want to be
  • [36:00] Why you should consider doing this 66-day challenge

The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode:

Out of everything you’ve heard in this episode, what’s the ONE thing you can do that will make everything else easier or unnecessary?

Get clear on that ONE thing, block it out in your calendar, and then protect it. Your life of gratitude starts there.

If you want to take on John’s challenge, head over to https://mrthankyou.com/30. If you want to set yourself up for success on your 66-day challenge, try the free 66-Day Challenge Training. If you need a coach to hold you accountable on your challenge, check out The ONE Thing Coaching.

Have you ever felt like you desperately want your situation to change... but no matter how hard you work, you just feel like you’re drowning?

There are these periods of our lives when, no matter how much action we take, we feel overwhelmed, and we just wish that we could take back our lives. We’re ambitious, we’re driven, but that just doesn’t feel like enough to get any forward momentum. This is especially true when we have kids, because honoring work commitments and being present as a parent is a monumentally difficult task for even the most extraordinary people.

That was how Casey Gocel felt, until she started living The ONE Thing. In this episode, Casey shares the story of how she struggled to strike a counterbalance in her life after having her first child – and how things started to change when she started doing just ONE thing differently; ONE thing that’s truly made everything else in her world easier or unnecessary.

In this episode, you will learn...

  • [5:00] What happens when you take a hard and honest look at your calendar
  • [11:30] The ONE Thing that can help you reclaim your calendar and your time
  • [14:00] How to say no
  • [18:55] How you can leverage accountability and delegation to help you stick to your most important tasks
  • [25:45] What happens when your productivity and transformation inspires other people to take note

The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode:

Wherever you are, whatever you are dealing with in your life, understand that it doesn’t have to be that way. You can make amazing changes in your life – and it doesn’t have to take that long!

The path to getting everything you want is to get ONE thing at a time. So start by identifying the ONE thing that will make everything else easier or unnecessary, and start focusing on that lead domino until it falls. Over time, as you can hear in this episode, it truly leads to extraordinary results (as long as you can overcome the distractions that try to steal your focus).

Do you ever struggle living the principles of The ONE Thing?

We know that there’s a surprisingly simple truth behind extraordinary results – but simple doesn’t mean easy. It’s not easy to maintain clarity on Your ONE Thing. It’s not easy to get Your ONE Thing done before you do anything else. It’s not easy to honor your time blocks and shut down every distraction that comes up. So what does it really take to overcome that hurdle and start living Your ONE Thing consistently?

To helps us answer that question, we are joined by Hal Elrod, author of the international bestseller The Miracle Morning and the brand-new book The Miracle Equation: The Two Decisions That Move Your Biggest Goals from Possible, to Probable, to Inevitable.

In this episode, you will learn...

  • [2:45] What is a miracle?
  • [8:00] The real purpose of a goal
  • [16:30] How to achieve tangible, measurable miracles
  • [21:35] Making the decision to have unwavering faith
  • [40:00] ONE question you need to ask yourself if you are struggling to live The ONE Thing

The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode:

If you could online achieve ONE goal this year, what would mean the most to you?

Once you understand what that goal is, ask yourself, what’s the ONE thing you can do that will make everything else easier or unnecessary?

You don’t earn the right to do anything else until you find an answer, and with it, the two-inch domino you can knock down. Keep asking that question until you know, for certain, you have identified the correct two-inch domino.

Then you need to apply The Miracle Equation.

If you want some additional guidance on your journey, we highly recommend ordering your copy of The Miracle Equation: The Two Decisions That Move Your Biggest Goals from Possible, to Probable, to Inevitable. You will get an additional $1,347 in bonuses (including a 6-week live online training with Hal) if you order the book in the launch period, so don’t miss out.

Are you living a life by default or by design?

Many of us are living a life by default. We wake up, check social media, react to what we see, head into the office, check email, react, sit in meetings, get up, check email, react, and then go to the next meeting – and this repeats day after day after day! We feel so busy, and we wonder why we don’t get anything done.

When you live a life by default, you just get what you get – but when you life a life by design, you are working towards the goals you want with intention and a strategy. Today’s guest has travelled down a long and difficult road, but there’s ONE thing thing that allowed him to turn his failures into his success: a clear vision. In this episode, we’re going to learn how Brian Scudamore, CEO of O2E Brands and author of WTF?! (Willing to Fail), found the keys to success in his failures, ultimately growing a $400M+ business without sacrificing time with the people who matter most.

  • [9:20] What your life looks like when you life a life by design
  • [14:00] How you can start adopting the mindset that everything doesn’t matter equally
  • [16:40] How to listen to your failures
  • [22:00] How you can make time to cast a vision when you’re so busy working on your business
  • [33:50] What you can to do help the people you lead create a life, not a living
  • [37:00] Why you need to fall in love with your vision

The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode:

Brian tells us that the ONE thing that will make creating a life – not a living – easier or unnecessary is casting that vivid vision.

This isn’t easy. Often, we run into a wall of “I don’t knows,” and it takes both big questions and support to get over past that wall.

We will teach you the questions you need to ask to push past that wall, and then once you have your vision, we will help you create the goals that will get you there.

Are your priorities today aligned with your five-year goals?

If we aren’t taking steps towards our someday goals every single day, we’re probably never going to get there – at least not any time soon. But if we have the right mindset and structures in place, not only can we achieve our someday goals, we can achieve them even faster than we think is possible.

Last week, Jay Papasan and Geoff Woods discussed the how billionaires set goals using a process called Goal Setting to the Now. Today, we’re going to share the tools and processes that billionaires use to ensure they stay on track towards their someday goals, every day.

In this episode, you will learn...

  • [5:00] How to make progress towards big goals, as a team, using a GPS
  • [13:00] The mistake that most people make when they start time blocking
  • [27:15] How you can use leverage to ensure that you’re always acting in order of priority
  • [42:30] What you can do to help others with their time management and goal setting

The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode:

We want you to think big, then go small.

Think big about your someday goals. Think big about being the type of person who has a GPS, who updates their 411 every single week, who time blocks their priorities and says no to all the distractions. That’s the big vision.

And now let’s go small – what’s the ONE thing you can do, such that be doing it, everything else will be easier or unnecessary?

Jay suggests you can just make a commitment to getting the first draft of Your GPS done by Wednesday, or if you already have that, complete or update Your 411.

Are you living a life by default or are you living a life by design?

Most of us are living a life by default. We wake up, take action, experience some successes, experience some failures, then repeat – but we get what we get by default. When billionaires set goals, however, they cast a vision into the future, then look backwards and set goals to the now. That’s how we live a life by design.

In this episode, we’re sharing the first half of Jay Papasan and Geoff Woods’s keynote presentation at the Keller Williams Family Reunion Convention 2019. This part is about the high-level principles of goal setting like a billionaire, and in the second part, we will dive into the tools billionaires use for goal setting.

In this episode, you will learn...

  • [3:40] How you can start goal setting to the now
  • [11:20] What you can learn from Gary Keller about getting clarity on your goals
  • [16:00] Where in your life are you currently chasing distractions and saying no to what is truly the priority?

The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode:

If you want to achieve extraordinary results, you can’t set goals looking forward. You have to have a vision for where you want to end up so that you can look back and identify the path that will get you there.

When you do that, you will know how to separate a true priority from a distraction.

What happens when your actions aren’t aligned with your goals?

When we are focusing on our ONE thing, it’s not like the rest of the world stops. The emails don’t stop piling up, meeting requests don’t cease to exist, and customer fires don’t magically disappear. The deeper we go into our one thing, the more this pressure builds – and we’re often so afraid of this chaos that we use time set aside for our ONE thing to clear off some of that 80% work. It feels productive for a moment, but in reality, we’re acting out of alignment with our goals.

So what happens when real stress and real anxiety starts to build up, and how do you deal with it without taking a detour off of the road to being extraordinary? To help us answer those questions, we are joined once again by Craig Ballantyne, author of the Wall-Street Journal Bestseller Unstoppable and The Perfect Day Formula.

In this episode, you will learn...

  • [4:00] How we suffer from the paradox of freedom
  • [7:00] What catalyzes our stress and anxiety
  • [18:45] How you can get clarity on what’s most important
  • [24:00] How to take a more proactive approach to your life

The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode:

Out of everything that you heard in this episode, what is the ONE thing that really stood out to you? And how can we take that spark of interest, that curiosity, and turn it into action?

It’s ONE thing at a time, over time, that creates results – so just pick ONE thing, and if you’re not in the middle of a 66-day challenge, start one: http://the1thing.com/66daychallenge.

Have you ever scheduled time for your most important work?

Chances are, all of us has done this at least once. But do you regularly time block and then protect that time like the air you breathe, defending it against every distraction that comes up? For most of us, the answer is no – but why is that?

In this episode, we suggest that this is because we’re not great at keeping the promises we make to ourselves or to others – and we believe that if you can get a little more intentional about the promises you make when you’re planning your time, and the commitments you make to others, then everything else will become easier or unnecessary. Our guest, Alex Sheen, has taken this idea of a promise and turned it into a movement and a book called Because I Said I Would, which is helping people all over the world make promises that stick.

We recorded this conversation as part of our monthly ONE Thing webinar series. Every month, we feature an incredible author so that you can learn directly from them and ask questions. If you want to sign up for our next FREE monthly webinar, head over to the1thing.com/webinars.

In this episode, you will learn...

  • [7:30] How the “market conditions” of promises have changed with technology
  • [12:30] The anatomy of a promise
  • [18:00] How you can gracefully say no – and still help people move towards their goals
  • [28:30] How you can leverage time blocking to prioritize what you do and don’t promise to do

The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode:

What’s the ONE thing that you’re not doing that would make saying no easier or unnecessary?

Maybe you need to get clear on why you’re saying yes to what you’re saying yes to and no to what you’re saying no to. If you don’t have clarity on your bigger purpose, your bigger Why, it can be difficult to stick to your guns and say no when it matters.

Or maybe you need a go-to no sentence like Alex’s: “It would be easy for me to say yes right now, but I respect you too much to keep a promise I can’t keep.”

How much time do you think you’ll need to block to come up with that sentence? And how many times do you think you’ll have to practice it, even just one time a day, before it just sounds natural? Sounds like a good candidate for a 66-Day Challenge: http://the1thing.com/66daychallenge.

What does football have to do with the 411?

Well back in 1960, the Packers made it to the NFL Championship, had a lead the whole game, and then lost to the Eagles in a stunning display in the fourth quarter. On the first day of training camp the following year, coach Vince Lombardi walked into the locker room, held up a football, and said, “This is a football.”

Why did Lombardi start with something so fundamental? He realized that if they could truly understand the surprising power of mastering the fundamentals, that that ONE thing could make everything else easier or unnecessary – and in 1961, the Packers went on to win the championship. So in this episode, we’re going to help you master the most fundamental tool in The ONE Thing toolbox: the 411.

In this episode, you will learn...

  • [6:30] How to get clarity on what matters most thing is using the 411.
  • [12:00] How to differentiate a priority from a distraction by goal setting to the now.
  • [19:00] Why sometimes you will be succeeding so slowly that you feel like you’re failing.

The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode:

Getting what you want out of life is not about doing more – it’s about doing more of what matters most.

Everything does not matter equally, and there are a handful of things that you can do, at any moment, that will create the majority of your results. Are you willing to try leveraging a 411 so that you are always clear on what those priorities are, so that your planner and your calendar can match your priorities?

How do you show up as a better leader, and how do you do it in a world that’s constantly distracting us?

Technology has changed our lives in profoundly positive ways, but it’s also created more distrations than ever before – and if you’re like most people, you probably feel more disconnected than ever before.

So we sat down with the author of Back to Human: How Great Leaders Create Connection in the Age of Isolation, Dan Schawbel, to discuss how we can do a better job at facilitating connections in the workplace, in spite of the technology that’s constantly surrounding us.

We recorded this conversation as part of our monthly ONE Thing webinar series. Every month, we feature an incredible author so that you can learn directly from them and ask questions. If you want to sign up for our next FREE monthly webinar, head over to the1thing.com/webinars.

In this episode, you will learn...

  • [6:25] What’s at stake if we keep using technology the way we are now.
  • [11:30] What it looks like to start developing trust between the people you lead.
  • [16:15] How do you help people get clear on the team’s purpose and what fulfills people on an individual level?
  • [24:00] How you can create connection (and the ONE thing that makes it easier or unnecessary)

The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode:

What is the ONE thing you can do, such that by doing it, everything else will be easier or unnecessary when it comes to making connections with people?

Dan says the most important skill is being able to work with other people. As a leader, as a manager, as a human, this will always be important. So what’s ONE thing you can do to improve your ability to work with others?

Do you have a New Year’s Resolution about your health, organization, or money?

There’s a good chance you do because, statistically, these are the three most common goals people set every year. But as we mentioned in the last episode, only eight percent of people actually succeed in implementing their resolutions. One of the big challenges here is that you can’t succeed alone, especially if you have a significant other, but so many of us try to.

Today, we are sharing the case study of a couple who ran up against that challenge year after year – which, ultimately, meant they were fighting about money year after year – until they started having an annual couple’s goal-setting retreat 10 years ago. Now, Jenn and JP Lewis never fight about money, and in this episode, we’re going to break down how they did it and the ONE thing you can do today that will make everything else easier or unnecessary when it comes to setting your annual goals.

In this episode, you will learn...

  • [4:45] Jenn’s advice for anyone who is hesitant to participate in a couple’s goal-setting retreat
  • [12:00] What it looks like to reallocate funds and time to what matters most, as a team.
  • [18:00] Why you need emotional buy-in during the goal-setting process.
  • [25:00] The ONE thing you can do to make starting the couple’s goal-setting process easier or unnecessary.
  • [43:30] How becoming part of a community of goal setters can bring your couple’s goal setting to a new level.

The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode:

So, out of everything that you've heard in this episode, what's your lead domino? What's that first step?

We’ll recap the tools covered in this episode, and you can choose just ONE to be your lead domino:

The choice is yours. Where will you actually begin? And will you just be the type of person that takes action before you check your email today?

Have you started implementing the principles of The ONE Thing in your life?

It’s surprisingly simple... but it’s not easy. We’ve spoken with thousands of you who have started living The ONE Thing, and once you start going down that path, you realize something pretty quickly: there’s no way to succeed alone.

Today, we’re sharing Wyatt Graves’ journey from discovering to implementing the principles of The ONE Thing – to empowering a community to live these principles, too.

In this episode, you will learn...

  • [7:45] What changes when you start living The ONE Thing
  • [13:00] How Wyatt recruited the most important people in his life to come to the goal-setting retreat with him (even those who were a little skeptical)
  • [19:30] What it looks like when you have a relationship with your goals
  • [26:40] What most people are missing when they start trying to implement The ONE Thing
  • [33:00] How to endure the monotony of success

The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode:

Are you on your road to mastery when it comes to living The ONE Thing? And what do you think will be possible if the people in your world start going down that road, too?

When we asked Wyatt why he continues down this road to mastery, he said it’s because he knows that all leadership begins with self-leadership; it’s difficult to influence the people you care about if you’re not, first and foremost, walking the talk.

So who in your world do you really care about and who need to hear this message? Who do you want to experience what you’re experiencing by implementing the principles of The ONE Thing?

Send them this episode, send them to the1thing.com, or send an email introducing them to Geoff [at] the1thing.com and he will personally respond. We are that committed because we are unwilling to accept the status quo of living a life by default, instead of living a life by design.

Half of all Americans make New Year’s resolutions each year – but how many succeed?

According to a study conducted by the University of Scranton and published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology, only EIGHT PERCENT of people who set resolutions will actually succeed in implementing them.

Today, we want to share why we believe that so many people fail – and the ONE thing you can do to be successful in making the changes you want to make this year.

In this episode, you will learn...

  • [2:45] Why most people aren’t successful in implementing their resolutions.
  • [5:40] Why does it matter if you get in better shape, get more organized, or spend less (three of the most common resolutions)?
  • [6:30] How to get clear on the WHY and PURPOSE behind your goals.
  • [11:30] Why your time blocking needs to reflect your priorities.
  • [13:30] What motivates people.
  • [18:00] What you can do to turn a resolution into a habit.
  • [22:45] ONE tip for becoming part of the 8% who succeed.

The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode:

So, where do you get started?

Like anything with The ONE Thing, we encourage you to think big and then go small. So instead of thinking about everything we talked about in this episode, we encourage you to focus on just the ONE thing you can do that will make everything else easier or unnecessary.

Keep asking the clarifying question until you find a specific, measurable activity – then go on a 66-day challenge, put that activity in your calendar, and make that activity a habit.
